Pam Houston on myspace

This is great article about Pam Houston, writer, on my space. How cool is it to know that one of my favorite writer’s favorite singer is one of my favorite singers: Jackson Browne.

Kent Haruf

I just finished reading Plainsong by Kent Haruf. Here is what he says about his writing in an interview:

“You want to write books, on the most basic level, that people are so involved with that they turn the pages and need to find out how it ends,” Haruf says reluctantly, after being pressed to talk about the meaning of his work. “My intention is to write clear, simple, direct sentences and to believe that if you write clearly and cleanly enough then the reader will get what you want him or her to get. Beyond that I want people to think that they have been in the presence of real people.”

Light, at Thirty-Two” by Michael Blumenthal from Days We Would Rather Know.

Filed under: Poetry — kristen @ 11:22 am

[this is an amazing poem]
Oe.. And now, I think
I see it all in terms of light:
Oe.
And I understood, finally,
what my friend John meant,
twenty years ago, when he said: Love
is keeping the lights on. And I understood
why Matisse and Bonnard and Gauguin
and CEzanne all followed the light:
Because they knew all lovers are equal
in the dark, that light defines beauty
the way longing defines desire, that
everything depends on how light falls
on a seashell, a mouth … a broken bottle.
And now, I’d like to learn
to follow light wherever it leads me,

It’s Spring - from the dailyom.com

Filed under: Home / Place — kristen @ 11:17 am

Springtime inspires us to believe that, along with the earth, we too might change, release the past, and give birth to new ideas, new relationships, and new perspectives. In honor of spring, we could make a list of the many possibilities we envision for the future and bury it in the earth, surrendering the fertile seeds of our imaginations to the nurturing soil. In tune with the season, we can then watch in wonder as the last of the snow dissolves into the rich brown earth, and stark winter gives way to green possibility.

Indigo Girls

Filed under: Lyrics — kristen @ 5:42 pm

When we last talked we were lying on our backs Looking at the sky through the ceiling. I used to lie like that alone out on the driveway Trying to read the greek upon the stars The alphabet of feeling
Oh I knew back then It was a calling that said if joy then pain
The sound of the voice these years later Is still the same ….
I am alone in a hotel room tonight, I squeeze the sky out but thereis not a star appears. Begin my studies with this paper and this pencil, And Iim working through the grammar of my fears.*
what I wonit give to have the things that mean the most, not to mean the things I miss. Unforgiving the choice still is the language or the kiss.

Why I am happy - Poem By William Stafford

Filed under: Poetry — kristen @ 4:26 pm

Now has come, an easy time. I let it
roll. There is a lake somewhere
so blue and far nobody owns it.
A wind comes by, and a willow listens
gracefully.

I hear all this, every summer. I laugh
and cry for every turn of the world,
its terribly cold, innocent spin.
That lake stays blue and free; it goes
on and on.

And I know where it is.
